Can we say something provocative about eye creams?
We don’t believe in them.
Well, that’s not entirely true. What we mean to say is that we just don’t believe in their incremental value when it comes to the aging skincare concerns that are prominent around the eyes. We believe that if your day serum and your night repair cream have enough of, and the right kind of actives at effective levels, you shouldn’t need to buy an extra product. Cha-ching! That’s more money to keep in your pocket and less steps for you to worry about. Sidebar: Many Doctors and Beauty Editors are also skeptical about the value of eye creams, not just us.
And because of this, we decided to clinically test our products for use all around the eye so you can feel confident that our super stacked heroes are not only tested on humans in this way, but also incredibly effective at solving for lack of firmness, fine lines and puffiness.
What Causes the Effects of Aging On the Eye Area?
Our eyes are our biggest asset when it comes to connecting with the people we know and love. When people clock your age, they typically look at the hands and eyes. Please don’t misunderstand us, we are pro-aging and love the wisdom and laugh lines that come with our years, but when it comes to our appearance we want to “keep what we’ve got” by properly treating the delicate skin around the eyes. Typical changes (and the ingredients we use to combat them) include:
- Thinner Dermis: The skin around our orbital and brow bone is naturally thinner to begin with so as we age, this thinner texture is amplified. Peptides in THE DAY & NIGHT DUO help to increase visible density and firmness to combat the impact of this thinning skin.
- Loss of fat and plumpness: Fat pads below the eye sockets tend to descend from gravity or if you are a side sleeper, they flatten out over time. SKIN AT WORK uses a massive cocktail of Ceramides, Trehalose and Hyper Hydrating Butters and Oils to noticeably plump and restore volume.
- Fine Lines and Crepe-y Texture: Fine lines typically appear near your eyes and mouth. (Hello crows feet). Our personal proof of wisdom, they tend to pop up because of a reduced amount of elasticity and moisture in your skin. We take fine lines to task with a multi-dimensional hyaluronic acid that penetrates with three different molecular weights for a visible 3D plumping effect.
- Puffiness: As skin thins around the orbital bone below your eyes, it exposes puffiness which can make us look tired. THE DAY & NIGHT DUO contains a potent combination of algae extract and caffeine to visibly tighten both the under-eye area and the lid.
Are You Getting The Most Bang For Your Buck?
Influencers and beauty advisors will almost always instruct you to add your eye cream last in your routine. It’s been taught that way since the early 80s when eye creams came into play. But with each layer you put on your face, there’s doubt about how much those later layers are actually being absorbed.
I have designed a lot of clinical studies for eye creams over the years and here is the important thing to remember. No one, and I mean no one, is clinically testing an eye cream as the 3rd, 4th or 5th step. They test them on clean, dry skin and then take the instant measurements and overtime measurements. And likely, they won’t have the tester apply anything else before or after so they can get a true reading on the product’s performance. This is just how it’s done.
But that begs the question, do you typically apply your eye cream and nothing else? Or do you apply eye cream first? I am guessing the answer is no to both of those questions. The problem is that these tests don’t hold up in the way we actually live our lives and apply products in the real world. And in a typical routine when you apply the eye cream last, it’s just not being fully absorbed so the benefits are diluted or impeded by everything that came before it.
That said, if you love the ceremony of adding an eye cream, we say more power to ya. That’s just not us. And we designed our super stacked hero serums and creams with a full complement of ingredients to also give your delicate eye skin everything it needs for noticeable de puffing, tightening, plumping and reducing the visible fine lines! Some call it lazy skincare, we just call it efficient!
Why Our Formulas Are Clinically Tested
In the broadest definition, a typical clinical skincare study is conducted on humans by scientific third parties to validate the claims of a product and assess its risk. There is no legal requirement for companies to do so, but if a company has dedicated resources to these studies, that is a sign that they are serious about your skin's health.
Before we can tell you that a product is safe for the area around the eyes, we need to test it properly. So we hired an independent research firm, led by an ophthalmologist, to study 60 people's skin all around the eye, even on the upper lid next to the brow bone. None of the subjects reported any irritation during the study. As with any skincare product: AVOID DIRECT CONTACT WITH EYES.
How Do I Apply?
Simply incorporate your eye application into your regular application. There is no need to cake on extra product, just be sure to treat those areas.
Remember never rub or stretch the delicate skin around the eyes. Lightly tap product and allow to absorb.
